Simkin Centre Shabbat Dinners

In October 2023, The Asper Foundation established sponsorship of weekly Shabbat (Sabbath) dinners at The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre, a welcoming personal care home serving Winnipeg’s vibrant Jewish community. While rooted in Jewish values and traditions, this not-for-profit, government-funded centre warmly embraces seniors of all backgrounds, inviting them to partake in the enriching Shabbat gatherings.

Friday services are led by Rabbi Matthew Leibl and followed by the sumptuous traditional Shabbat dinners, fostering a sense of community and connection among residents. These spirited Shabbats are adorned with soulful singing and captivating stories, providing a cherished opportunity for Jewish residents to rekindle their heritage and extend the warmth of traditional Jewish experiences to their fellow residents.
