“There’s something about Winnipeg that brings out the best in people.”

“It is very exciting. There are a lot of needs in this community, and it’s important.”

The Winnipeg Foundation and The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba

On November 22, 2000 The Asper Foundation contributed $20 million to the future of philanthropic work in Manitoba.

The beneficiaries of this donation were The Winnipeg Foundation and The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba. Ten million dollars was donated to each foundation, the largest donation either of the two organizations had ever received at one time. The Winnipeg Foundation and The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba perform philanthropic work in the community, much like The Asper Foundation.

The Asper Foundation has been a long-time supporter of The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba. Mr. Justice Guy Kroft, then foundation president, said that as a result of Asper’s $10 million donation, the organization’s fund “grew by one-third in a single morning.”

Helen Hayles, then chair of The Winnipeg Foundation said the donation means it can give about $500,000 more per year to charitable institutions.
