The Asper Institute for New Media Diplomacy at Reichman University
The Asper Foundation dedicated the Asper Institute for New Media Diplomacy at the Sammy Ofer School of Communications on June 9, 2007 at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya. In 2021, IDC changed its name to Reichman University.
Established through a significant donation and continuing support by The Asper Foundation, The Asper Institute for New Media Diplomacy focuses on the study and use of new media technologies in telling Israel’s story to the world. The unique capabilities of these technologies allow innovative depiction of Israel from new and different perspectives. The Asper Institute also provides workshops on creating effective new media advocacy campaigns and works with students in producing video, audio and written content about various aspects of life in Israel for use in new media channels.
The Institute’s courses, seminars and programs in the area of public diplomacy are part of the degree program in Reichman University studies and provide students theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of public advocacy and diplomacy. Highlights include:
- NoCamels has become one of the world’s leading innovation news websites, reaching many millions of people annually with content about inspiring Israeli achievements and inventions in the fields of health, clean-tech, start-ups, design, culture and travel.
- The Asper Reichman University International Radio trains hundreds of students annually in the booming medium of podcasts and online radio, producing dozens of shows and podcasts that are distributed to partner stations in US-speaking countries.
- The Asper Institute is closely involved with many other Reichman University programs, including the Reichman University’s Public Diplomacy Program, The Radio Museum, the Innovation Centre and the Daniel Pearl International Journalism Institute.
- The Asper Institute frequently cooperates on programs, workshops and conferences with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson’s Unit, the Foreign Press Association and others.
- The Asper Institute provides nine workshops annually to Reichman University students on topics such as digital storytelling and new media.
